It is the biggest of
" Odontocèdes ": males can reach the 18 m and 40 tons while females exceed
rarely the 13 m and 20 tons.
The massive head
represents near a third of the body. The general colour varies between the brown -
chocolate and the grey - lead. It does not possess dorsal aileron but a series of bumps.
The breath is directed in 45 ° forwards and the left.
The sperm whale dives by raising its
enormous tail above the surface. This sort frequents especially the zones of big depthes
(several thousand metres) where it feeds on huge squids and fishes of depth.
Females live in crowds
while the male adults live solitary. Sperm whales put low only all the 3 in 5 years. The
longevity of the sort is from 60 to 80 years.
